The glow stick, Origonally developed by the US military in the 1960s was origonally designed as an emergency lighting device has remained in the same form for a good 50 plus years. Chemical luminecience comes in a few different chemical combinations. Most commonly found is a Luminol and catalyst solution with dyes added for colour and an oxodiser, usually hydrogen peroxide. When ythe two mix the lumilon begins oxidising creating a source of light.

Cutting up a glow stick provided no new information other than the glass tube is much sturdier than I had thought. it made a wonderfullty pretty mess on my kitchen bench
At this point in my design I had decided on the basic idea and shape behind my design. An hourglass apeared to be the best way to create my lighting device as explained in my notes

By now I had done plenty of sketches exploring the idea, but As for the shape of the flasks I wanted just a basic erlenmeyer flask. unfortunatly its hard to find an unmarked flask and I didnt have enough time to hve it glass blown at the facilities in kelburn so I was going to have to make do with something else.
Ok posting time. Ill mostly post my written notes as that is the best way to show my work so far.
